Gone Crackers Flax & Sesame and Reggiano Parmesan & Rosemary Crackers, $5.99-$6.99

Some folks go coconuts, some go bananas and then there's those who go crackers.

At least that's the theme behind this new Vancouver cracker company and they've got the logo to prove it. A crazy jester hanging off a sliver of moon with a look on his face that makes me think he's got crumbs in his leotards. A little scary but his wave is friendly and these are some of the best crackers I've ever tasted.

Price is steep but you'll impress everybody, from the sweat-pant encased to the evening-wear clad. Tried these out on some hoity-toity wine-palate pals and they were at 'em like wolverines on a tourist lost in an animal safari park.

Favourite was the Reggiano Parmesan with a soft bite of aged Italian cheese dusting the crispy wafers. Flax & Sesame had a curry undercurrent, though it's not listed in the ingredients. Just a natural alchemical outcome.

You can match these things to both wine and cheese or just break out the processed slices and whatever your can opener opens. Delicious with everything.

No yeast, no sugar and a flavour that'll resonate like a Tuscan tongue wash or send your tastebuds staggering through a Moroccan bazaar in the middle of the Prairies.

Available at Stong's, Thrifty Foods, Meinhardt's, Gourmet Warehouse, Lesley Stowe and arriving soon to Capers and Urban Fare. Check website, www.gonecrackers.ca.
